What MARC does
MARC is an open-source iPhone app for monitoring and controlling your Mac over SSH. Check system activity, manage processes and files, use multiple terminal sessions, and access supported everyday controls.
What you need
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later.
- A Mac with Remote Login enabled for your account.
- A network route between your iPhone and Mac.
- Python 3 available to the SSH account for monitoring and file-action scripts.
Start with a local connection
For your first connection, keep both devices on the same trusted network and keep the Mac awake. Follow Connect your Mac.
Choose what you use
No MARC account is required. AI and additional control helpers are optional. MARC does not stream your desktop or provide a built-in internet relay.
Where MARC fits into your day
You might want to check why your Mac is running hot, download something you left on it, or run a command without going back to your desk. MARC brings those tasks together on your iPhone.
Start with Status for a quick check. Open Processes when you want to investigate activity, Files when you need a document, or Terminal when a task needs a command.
How the connection works
SSH is the connection between MARC and your Mac. Remote Login is the macOS setting that enables it. You sign in with a Mac account, and MARC works with that account’s permissions.
Your Mac still does the work. It needs to be awake and reachable from your iPhone. Installing MARC does not make a sleeping or disconnected Mac available from anywhere.
A good place to start
- Follow Connect your Mac and make your first connection.
- Check Status and System to confirm readings are coming through.
- Browse a familiar folder in Files.
- Try a simple command in Terminal.
- Set up optional controls or AI when you need them.
You do not have to configure every feature before using the app.
