What is available

Control availability depends on your Mac, macOS permissions, and installed helper tools. An unavailable control does not necessarily mean SSH is broken.

Why is a control unavailable?

A working SSH connection does not guarantee that every Mac control is supported. A control may depend on hardware support, macOS permissions, a signed-in desktop session, or an optional helper.

Follow the setup message for that control. For display and audio sliders, also check whether the connected device supports adjustment.

Display and audio

Adjust supported volume and brightness controls. Some external displays do not support software brightness changes; some HDMI and display audio outputs have fixed volume.

Media and optional helpers

For browser media, open MARC’s media setup panel and follow its detected instructions. If an install command is offered, copy it to MARC’s Terminal, review it, run it, then check setup again.

Bluetooth switching may require blueutil. Monitoring, Terminal, and file browsing do not require the optional media helper.

Quick Launch

Quick Launch operates in the signed-in Mac user’s session. Available applications and behavior depend on that Mac’s setup.

Check the result of a control

Start with a small change, such as adjusting volume slightly. Check the feedback in MARC and the result on the Mac before repeating the action.

Some controls depend on the signed-in desktop session. A Mac that accepts SSH can still have a control unavailable because of its current session, hardware, or permissions.

Setting up optional media support

Use the setup instructions MARC detects for that Mac. Review any offered install command before running it, then return to the setup panel and check again.

You can keep using monitoring, Files, and Terminal without installing the optional media helper.

When a slider does not work

Check the selected output or display. An external monitor may not expose software brightness control, and an HDMI audio output may have fixed volume.

In those cases, the limitation belongs to the device or output path. Reconnecting SSH will not necessarily add support.
